Did you know children who play and study a musical instrument tend to be able to process their emotions better and maintain focus in class? Yup, it's true! According to recent studies, learning an instrument enhances the development of a child's brain and greatly influences the portions of the brain that regulate emotions and the ability to focus their attention. While evaluating our music curriculum this summer we decided to make a minor adjustment to provide our scholars with greater development during some of the most formative years of their lives.

In the Walter Informational USB that was sent out earlier this summer, we stated that scholars in 4th and 5th would be required to take orchestra. However, upon further evaluation we've decided it's best for our scholars if we made a slight shift in these requirements.

  • Now, grades K-4th will be receiving a general music education where they will have an opportunity to explore various instruments and begin laying the foundations of music theory.
  •  In 5th and 6th they will begin to dive deep into the realm of orchestral music and music theory as a part of their scholastic requirements.
  • Our 7th - 11th grade scholars will be able to choose orchestra as one of their electives and continue to develop their love of playing an instrument.
  • We are also excited to be offering guitar classes for scholars in 9th - 11th and piano for scholars in 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th

Mandatory Meeting

Music and Arts will be holding an orchestral instrument try-out event here at the OSOTA campus August 31st starting at 4PM. All of our 5th and 6th graders will need to attend, along with any scholars in 7th - 11th who elect to take orchestra as a part of their scholastic experience. There will be no rental agreements taking place on this day. This day is strictly for instrumental tryouts.

Music and Arts will return to One School on September 4th at 4pm to do rental agreements, however rental agreements can be made online or in person once your child has been assigned an instrument by their orchestra teacher.
