Music is the art of thinking with sounds.
― Jules Combarieu

Next Monday, August 31st we will be hosting an instrument try-out night with Music and Arts for our scholars who are in orchestra. It will last from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on a first come, first serve basis. All scholars in 5th and 6th are required to attend and will be able to play-test the violin, viola, or cello. They do not rent double basses at Music and Arts, but if there are few scholars who are really interested in the double bass, then you would have to purchase it from another store and email Mr. Blake (orchestra teacher) at Bstill@oneschool.net

Scholars in 7th - 11th should only attend if they have elected to take orchestra this year.

Mr. Still will be observing the try-outs and will be using the information gathered to determine which instrument your scholar will be playing. Instrument assignments will be communicated prior to Friday September 4th when Music and Arts will return to answer any rental agreement questions and provide contracts.

Instruments can also be rented at their location near the Seminole Towne Center Mall in Sanford. Scholars are required to have their instruments by Monday September 7th.

Why Music?

“Music is a Science. Music is Mathematical. Music is a Foreign Language.
Music is History. Music is Physical Education.
Music Develops Insight and Demands Research.
Music is all these things, but most of all, Music is Art.
That is why we teach music: not because we expect you to major in music.
Not because we expect you to play or sing all your life,
But so you will be human.
So you will recognize beauty.
So you will be closer to that which is infinite beyond this world.
So you will have something to cling to.
So you will have more love, more compassion,
more gentleness, more good--in short, more LIFE.”
