Joe’s Tech Tips: Safeguarding the next generation in a connected world

After 20+ years in the U.S. Air Force, the majority of those as a Special Agent investigating cybercrime and counterintelligence, I’ve seen how predators exploit tech to target kids. Now a manager of both Cybersecurity and Physical Security programs for critical infrastructure across the nation, I’m bringing that experience to our One School family to help parents and staff protect our Scholars from online threats and real-world dangers.

Vision:

My mission is to equip you with practical, real-world insight into the digital threats our Scholars face, and to support you in protecting them while we prepare them with the wisdom, tools, and discernment they need to navigate those challenges with confidence and integrity. Technology alone isn’t enough. Filters, apps, and controls can be bypassed. True protection begins with engaged parenting, honest conversations, firm boundaries, and steady guidance. Together, through awareness, education, and shared vigilance, we’ll raise resilient, thoughtful digital citizens—grounded not just in knowledge, but in character and faith.

Tech Tip:

Join digital communities that help parents stay ahead of online risks.

  • Officer Gomez (Facebook): A school resource officer sharing real-world safety tips.

  • Parenting in a Tech World (Facebook): A parent-led group tackling device challenges and clever workarounds kids use.

  • Common Sense Media: Explore their parent and educator sections—especially the K–8 Digital Literacy & Well-Being Curriculum. Let’s build a shield of shared vigilance and open dialogue. It still takes a village.
